Juha Pöysä…

… Was born in Järvenpää, Finland. Being from a musical family, he got influenced by music from a very early age, and at the age of 6, inspired by his two uncles who are both professional violinists, he chose with strong determination to start to play the violin. He got enrolled in a local public music school and began his classical music studies, which would continue all the way until he was 18 years old.

However, in elementary school a few of his friends were starting a rock band and they lacked a bass player. Although the aspiring violinist despised the whole rock thing at first, his mind was changed when his older brother bought a bass guitar. Juha was 11 years old. Soon he started learning to rock with the guys at school, and as a very important addition to the classical training, he learned the meaning of "playing by ear". After a while, he got the bass as his side instrument in the music school and began more formal studies with the instrument. Soon, his interests grew more diverse and he began to enjoy more experimental music, as well as gathering an understanding of different kinds of Jazz and R&B based music.

After graduating from High School at the age of 19, the year being 2005, he finally took an important step and started to study music as a profession in Kuopio Conservatoire, with bass now as his principal instrument. He graduated after two years and moved to Helsinki, where he started studying at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Now, after two years of studying in Helsinki, he’s used the opportunity opened up by a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, in Boston MA, and he’s hitting the American music scene by hooking up with the guys at Project K-Paz, bringing some new, scandinavic spark to the group and striving to find new dimensions of creativity.
